What began as a humble love for coffee has grown into one of New Zealand’s most respected specialty coffee brands. TOB Coffee was founded by Young-Jin Cha — known affectionately as Mr. TOB — whose lifelong dedication to coffee quality, education, and craftsmanship has inspired a new generation of baristas and roasters across the region.

Since earning his Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) Q-Grader certification in 2013, Mr. TOB has continued to raise the standard of coffee excellence. In 2025, he achieved a remarkable milestone — Young Jin CHA (Mr.Tob) is the first and currently the only Q Instructor in New Zealand under the new Q Grader program, scoring a perfect 100 in his examination. This title is held by only two professionals across New Zealand and Australia, representing the very highest level of coffee expertise.

A World-Class Coffee Journey

Over the years, Mr. TOB has shared his knowledge far beyond Auckland. As an International Jury Member for the Cup of Excellence since 2016 and a certified trainer for the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe, he’s helped evaluate and celebrate some of the world’s finest coffees. His work as a mentor and educator continues to shape coffee professionals across Asia and the Pacific, training Q Graders, roasters, and judges who now define quality in their own markets.

At the heart of this experience is one belief — great coffee starts with respect: for the farmer, the bean, and the brew. Every roast at TOB Coffee embodies that principle — crafted with precision, balance, and an unwavering pursuit of flavour clarity.
